Our Lives
Poetry

Alone by Brenda Cook

You look at me, but do not see
The person who’s deep within,
I look at you, but can not guess
Of  the dreamer in your breast
We walk this dark Earth far apart
Fearful to show our souls
So alone and lost and crying,
But no one else can see,
How lonely and afraid we are
In a people crowded sea.

Is there anybody out there
Who can see behind the eyes?
Can interpret cries of anguish
And still silent screams of pain.
Can someone touch our restless mind
And show it perfect peace.
We live our lives and wear our masks
To keep ourselves detached
Not venturing on to bridges built
In case they all collapse?

Will you take a risk and chance it
You could end your lonely life
If you reveal your fortress soul
And allow our Lord God in
Just trust enough and open doors
And let the light flood in.
What can be lost by taking risks
Start being who you are
Surprise yourself and you will find
An encounter of true minds
